Assignment Summary:

Assignment 1&2: Letterpress: poem/small type & Papermaking

Assignments 3&4: Relief: Linocut, gel plates

Assignment 5: Letterpress broadside/poster: at least 2 color

Assignment 6: Screen print textile: t-shirt , tote, patch, apparel, etc. (1 color)

Assignment 7: Screen print poster (at least 2 colors, 5 copies)

Assignment 8: Flag book and polymer plates/solar plates

Assignment 9: Final project of choice

Final exam: May 1 First Friday exhibit

Week 1: Letterpress & Papermaking

Introduction, Syllabus, Course Outline

Project 1: Letterpress literary quote or poem; pick from below. Lock up demo. Start setting type.

Week 2: Letterpress & Papermaking

Monday, 1/21 MLK day-no class

Project 2: Papermaking; make paper for your poem

Continue to work on poem; you will print an edition of 5; printing demo

Wednesday, 1/23

Finish printing. Continue to make paper for later projects. Keep your lock up.

Week 3: Relief printing

Monday, 1/28

Quick crit of poem edition

Project 3: Linocut and gel plates. Create an image to go with your poem.


Wednesday, 1/30

Demo on transferring images to linoleum. Start work on lino cut

More gel plate monoprinting; make 5 more by end of class

Week 4: Relief printing
Monday, 2/4:
Edition of 10 linocut with your type lockup.

Wednesday, 2/6:  Finish edition.

Project 4: Gel plate monoprinting demo: 5 prints by end of class

Week 5: Letterpress broadsides

Monday, 2/11 Finish linocut and make 5 gel monoprints

Project 5: Letterpress broadside (wood type) inspired by Rachel Carson; 2 color, edition of at least 5 (I keep one). Incorporate linocut or monoprinting with your type.
